Described as a contemporary painter...

Personally, the subject of exploration dictates the mediums and formats the works will take... that's the adventure and satisfaction!

My inspiration

The determination of nature and humankind to overcome adversity is central to my work. Alchemy, transformation and survival inspire my highly process-led approach to making, which incorporates personal narratives and world issues. I work often in an abstract fashion using natural and industrial materials. Wood, metal, rust and erosion are all combined to create artworks and installations to encourage an intimate dialogue with the viewer.

Artist Statement

The themes of fragility, metamorphosis and survival are central to my work, which can be viewed as a continuum from personal to world-wide conservation and environmental issues. Into my work I weave personal narratives to illustrate how we cope with trauma, disease and recovery. On a wider scale I am also considering the effects of environmental stresses and our patterns of living and consumption.
Often my works are displayed as an installation. Through sight, sound and touch, I wish to facilitate an exchange, a dialogue with the viewer, encouraging a deeper involvement with the subject, enabling contemplation on the human condition, how we are not one, but have a wider impact on the biosphere.
